autism case studies by Coffey, Kenneth M, Obringer, S John. Author! Semi-structured interviews were conducted with a mother and father raising their two children with autism. This single case study revealed the supports involved in rises theme, educating and socializing school-aged children with autism spectrum disorder. The case study indicated that the parents agreed on author of into the wild a majority of everything, issues and clearly pointed out that their major area of author of into, concern was education. Failure To Plan! Implications are put forth for accommodating students with autism in author the wild, inclusive settings with suggestions for failure to plan future research. In 1943, Leo Kanner first described a discrete set of author, behaviors observed in asexual reproduction, children as autistic disturbance of affective contact (Kanner, 1943, p. The Wild! 217). He noted that the most notable features of this condition were obsessive and reproduction, stereotypic behaviors accompanied by echolalia. Author! Autism remains one of the true mysteries of that must, medical science and psychology.

In fact, Kirk (2000) refers to author the wild it as one of the least understood disabilities (p. 445). To add to the confusion, authorities disagree on whether autism is a distinct disability or a subgroup of another exceptionality (Smith, 2001). Until 1981 autism was included in how to background study, the definition of author of into, severe emotional disturbance, but in that year the secretary of education moved autism from the federal definition of asexual reproduction in bacteria, 'severe emotional disturbance' to the category of of into the wild, Other health impaired' (Ysseldyke Algozzine, 1995, p. 433). This controversy over whether autism is a distinct disability may exist because individuals with autism exhibit characteristics which cross a number of pro and humans, disabilities (e.g. Author Of Into! other health impaired, mental retardation, communication disorders). Reproduction! The characteristics of author of into, these varying disabilities include language disorders (echolalia), emotional disturbance (unusual responses to people or attachment to United States Zealand objects), and the wild, mental retardation (approximately 70% of failure to plan, persons with autism have cognitive disorders). In 1980, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders III (American Psychiatric Association, 1980) first included autism as a separate and distinct disability (Tanguay, Robertson, Derrick, 1998). The Wild! Until 1997, autism was not included as a distinct disability category under the auspices of the Individuals with Disability Education Act (IDEA). For the previous 16 years it was categorized as other health impaired. With the steroid bible, 1997 amendments to IDEA (P.L. 105-17), autism was defined as: a developmental disability significantly affecting verbal and non-verbal communication and author, social interaction usually evident before age 3, that adversely affects a child's educational performance.

Other characteristics often associated with autism are engagement in humans, repetitive activities and stereotyped movement, resistance to environmental change or change in daily routines, and of into, unusual sensory experiences (NICHCY, 1997, p. In The States! 1). The Wild! Most recently, there has been a major move to rises theme change from the dichotomy of autistic- nonautistic to of into a recognition of everything that rises must converge, a continuum referred to as autism spectrum disorder (ASD) (Billstedt, 2000). Author! This continuum ranges from individuals manifesting relatively mild autistic- related disorders such as Asperger's Syndrome to individuals manifesting autism with mental retardation and background study, other relatively severe symptoms (Scheuermann Webber, 2002). The incidence of of into the wild, autism spectrum disorder in the United States is of Technology Curricula United reported to be approximately 4.8 per author of into the wild, 10,000 with a consistent excess of males to females, up to a 4:1 ratio (Szatmari, Jones, Zwaigenbaum, MacLean, 1998). Some researchers believe autism spectrum disorder to be much more common, approaching half a percent of the management, general population of children (Billstedt, 2000). Occasionally, a family may have multiple children with autism spectrum disorder, however, this phenomenon is of into rare.

Less than 3% of the pro and cons, siblings of children identified with ASD also have the the wild, disorder (Bolton et al., 1994). The purpose of of the, this single case study was to investigate the school and community supports that led to of into the wild the inclusion of two siblings with ASD. Background Of The Study! This case study seemed to be the author, most appropriate qualitative method to obtain in-depth information about this family. Merriam (1998) noted that a qualitative case study is an intensive, holistic description and analysis of write background, a single instance, phenomena, or social unit (p. The Wild! 21). The older child in the family is a 14 year old male attending the steroid bible, 8th grade with well above average intelligence and mild to of into the wild moderate autistic tendencies with no other health problems. This young man is threat of entry quite proficient academically and of into the wild, has competed more than once in of cloning humans, the National Spelling Bee, annually held in author of into the wild, Washington, DC.

He is a straight A student with exceptional mathematical abilities, but struggles with psychosocial skills, especially interpersonal relationships. Everything Rises Must Converge Theme! He has few friends and spends a significant amount of time in solitary activities. His parents have encouraged him to author of into participate in cons of cloning, sports and community organizations, but efforts in this area have proven unsuccessful. Of Into! The younger child in the family is an threat of entry, 11 year old female attending the author the wild, 4th grade with below average intelligence who has moderate to david severe autistic tendencies with no other health problems. She struggles both academically and the wild, socially. She requires a significant level of support to succeed in school, and even with these supports, remains below grade level. However, she has basic self-care skills (eating, dressing, hygiene) and steroid bible, relatively good skills in author of into, reading recognition and math computation.

This student has much more difficulty in reading comprehension, math reasoning, and both the social and functional use of failure to plan, language. While she will respond to the wild the social overtures of others, she does not initiate any social interaction. Everything That Rises Theme! Like her sibling, she has few friends and spends a significant amount of time in solitary activities. The father is a 46 year old engineer who is author of into a long-term employee of a federal power agency. He has only a few friends and david, prefers to author the wild spend his leisure time at home. Steroid Bible! He has a somewhat introverted personality and author the wild, is marginally involved in threat of entry, one community organization. The father reports that he has not sought out author extensive information on autism, preferring to threat of entry leave that role to of into his wife. The mother is The Development Curricula United States and New a 47 year old homemaker who is author of into the wild extensively involved in management, advocating for her two children. After the realization that both children had autistic tendencies, the author of into, mother decided to have no more children. She sees her full-time role as advocating for her own children and online consultation with other parents who have children with ASD.

The mother stays abreast of developments in the field of autism, continually reading books on the subject and The Development Curricula States and New Zealand, occasionally traveling to attend workshops. The Wild! Due to the fact that the family resides in threat of entry, a relatively small community, there is author the wild no specific advocacy group or physician specializing in asexual reproduction in bacteria, autism. Therefore, the mother has been involved in related support groups, such as ARC. As an of into, advocate, she spends considerable time in the local school, facilitating the inclusion of her children. Threat Of Entry! The mother spends an of into the wild, hour at the school each day tutoring her daughter during study hall.

Prior to The Development In The States Zealand the beginning of each school year she devotes a significant amount of author the wild, time to observing various classrooms to determine the most suitable teacher and threat of entry, classroom climate for her children. Of Into! The family lives in a relatively small university town in the southeastern United States with a population near 20,000. Of these residents approximately 65% are Caucasian, 30% are African-American, 4% are Asian, and 1% are Hispanic and Native American. Everything That Rises Must! The U.S. Census Bureau estimates that 20% of the persons living in this county live below the poverty level. The K-12 school in which the children are enrolled serves a total of 795 students with an average class size of author, 20 on a single campus. Curricula And New Zealand! It has a relatively small school staff which includes special services and of into, the typical extracurricular activities. Threat Of Entry! The school has a reputation for strong discipline and of into, high levels of parental involvement. The investigators received approval from the david an introduction, university's Institutional Review Board and the family to conduct a thorough case study using a semi-structured interview format. The protocol was structured to question each parent individually and then as a couple.

The interviews covered such issues as genetic predisposition, family planning, psychosocial stressors, and social interactions, along with an extensive group of author the wild, questions on education and service delivery (see Appendix A). The interviews were transcribed and reviewed by both investigators to insure accuracy. To determine emerging themes, the investigators examined the pro and cons humans, transcriptions from the interviews with each parent and of into the wild, the interview from the of the, couple together. Author! A review of the write background, data determined those areas in which parents showed consensus as well as areas in author, which the of Technology Curricula In The United, parents exhibited divergent views. Additionally, the investigators attempted to author of into the wild isolate those supports that led to successful inclusion in general education classrooms.

From an analysis of the threat of entry, separate interviews with each parent and the joint interview with the author, couple, the following issues emerged: Areas of Disagreement. The parents disagreed on just two major issues. Threat Of Entry! (1) Different long-term educational goals for the younger, more seriously involved child. The Wild! The mother was very firmly committed to this child receiving a standard high school diploma, while the father was less concerned about the high school diploma. The Development Of Technology Curricula United States! The stated concern of the author of into, father was his daughter's overall happiness and failure to plan, well being. Author The Wild! (2) The existence of failure to plan, a family history of developmental disorders including autism, attention, learning, or mood disorders. The father reported no known family history of the wild, autism or other developmental disorders. The mother, however, stated that both extended families had a history of david boddy, developmental and author of into, mood disorders. Of Technology In The States And New! Areas of of into, Agreement. Failure To Plan! The parents agreed on author of into the wild most items of how to background of the study, inquiry during the of into the wild, interviews. That Converge Theme! They concurred on: (1) The developmental history of the author, children.

The younger child, the more severely affected, missed a number of an introduction, early developmental milestones and was referred for of into the wild testing prior to age 4. Threat Of Entry! Concerns about the of into, older child did not arise until he approached school age. (2) The family psychosocial stressors related to parenting two children with autism spectrum disorder. The Development Of Technology United States! Both parents agreed they faced considerable stress and provided detailed examples of specific psychosocial Stressors. For example, the husband wants his spouse to keep abreast of the advances in autism and advocate for the wild the children. Conversely, the everything that must, wife wishes he would share in author of into, this role. Additionally, the david management an introduction, husband believes that he has suffered professionally dealing with the stress of having two children with autism spectrum disorder and must remain focused on his professional career. (3) The daily activities and routines of family life.

Both parents agreed that apart from of into the wild church involvement the family has few outside interests or social activities. Both children are comfortable with this passive style of threat of entry, social interaction. (4) The atmosphere within a small school was one feature that contributed to their children's success. The parents believed that a smaller school with a reduced pupil-teacher ratio provided more flexibility and the wild, a greater willingness to accommodate. Background Of The! For example, the parents requested and the wild, received preferential seating, modified testing, peer tutoring, extended time for assignments, and modified homework. Failure To Plan! Also, home visits by author of into the wild the teacher are encouraged. The small school with a single K-12 campus facilitated a smooth transition from grade to grade. (5) Those teacher characteristics that appeared to be most effective for their children. Cons Of Cloning! Both parents felt that a firm, but flexible teacher was optimal.

The parents and school administrator jointly select teachers based on of into the wild teaching style and The Development United States and New Zealand, classroom climate. In addition, university practicum students from the special education program provide in-home tutoring in author of into the wild, academic and advanced self-help skills. (6) The overall positive reaction of classmates and david boddy management, their parents to having children with autism in the general education class. As expected, there were some initial expressions of concern about the impact of the of into, younger child on the academic rigor of the classroom (i.e. two phone calls from concerned parents). Following this initial period of of Technology Curricula United, adjustment, her peers and of into, their parents have been generally supportive of her inclusion in asexual reproduction in bacteria, the classroom. This support has been evidenced by frequent social overtures from of into the wild her classmates as well as peer tutoring. (7) The transition to adulthood and the likely level of independence obtainable. Both parents agree that the threat of entry, older child will be a college graduate with a professional career, although they recognize that he will have ongoing social difficulty that may be a limiting factor in employment and the wild, other areas. The parents agree that the younger child will need some form of lifelong support (i.e. Curricula And New Zealand! sheltered employment, supervised apartment, supplementary financial assistance). (8) Finding understanding physicians and author of into, dentists. The Development States And New Zealand! A final area of agreement was the difficulty in finding medical professionals who were willing to vary from their normal protocol in treating the children. As one example, the of into, parents eventually located a physician who was willing to take off his white coat and tie and The Development of Technology States, perform clinical observations and procedures while keeping a distinct physical distance from the younger, more seriously involved child whenever possible. Author! Discussion and steroid bible, Implications.

The issues that emerged from of into this study lead to both educational and failure to plan, community implications. Schools and author, parents of children with autism spectrum disorder might find the following suggestions especially helpful: * Establish a working relationship between parents and administrators to match the personality and In The States and New Zealand, characteristics of author the wild, prospective teachers to the student with autism spectrum disorder; * Encourage home visits by teachers to pro and cons of cloning better understand family dynamics and author the wild, appreciate the challenges faced by pro and cons humans parents; * Schedule frequent parent-teachers conferences so both parents and teachers can reach agreement on author of into managing current social and failure to plan, academic challenges; * View small school size and author the wild, unified campus (physical plant) as a strength versus a limitation; * Identify classrooms emphasizing peer group support for academic and threat of entry, social issues; * Utilize classrooms with a reduced teacher-pupil ratio; and. * Demonstrate a willingness to be flexible concerning implementation of author, school policies (e.g. scheduling, homework, and steroid bible, testing). Of Into! * Utilize sources of support available within the community, although the focus might not be specifically on autism spectrum disorder (e.g. Steroid Bible! ARC, previously referred to as Association for Retarded Citizens, Learning Disabilities Association, and Council for the wild Exceptional Children); * Utilize university students from david management appropriate academic fields for a variety of author the wild, support tasks including respite services, training in steroid bible, daily living skills, developing interventions or creative alternatives for particularly difficult situations, modeling appropriate behavior, and of into, implementing a functional behavioral analysis; and. * Utilize the expertise of failure to plan, a regional or state university (e.g. Author The Wild! diagnostic services, academic tutoring, and in bacteria, behavioral strategies). Three limitations were noted in of into the wild, the present study. First, the how to background of the, investigation involved a single family and author of into, the issues they faced. Second, although both of failure to plan, these children were clinically diagnosed with autism, they may not be representative of of into, other children with autism. Write! Finally, the protocol investigated a limited number of factors when other significant dynamics may have been present. The Wild! Implications for Future Research.

This investigation provides insight into the supports utilized by a family with multiple incidence autism. The relative rarity of this phenomenon would make this study difficult to The Development of Technology Curricula United Zealand replicate. However, a later follow-up of this unique family unit would be of the wild, great interest or if a similar family can be found, a comparative study would be insightful. Additionally, studies on threat of entry the provision of services offered by of into small or single-campus schools to reproduction students with low incidence disabilities might be helpful to of into the wild parents seeking necessary supports for their children. Steroid Bible! As with the author of into the wild, present case study, the failure to plan, school appeared to be flexible and author the wild, caring in providing an appropriate education to asexual reproduction both of author, these children with ASD. Pro And Of Cloning! As inclusion is more frequently employed, this family might serve as one model of successful inclusive programming for children with autism. Although their disabilities were significant, the the wild, major issues for how to write these two children were social and author, academic rather than cognitive. As mentioned previously, many children with autism face mental retardation as well as other major difficulties. Due to the rarity of multiple incidence autism, little has been written concerning the supports required by a family with such challenges. Write! A teacher or related service provider might not be inclined to picture a family with multiple incidences of autism as having the ability to author function successfully in how to, the community and of into the wild, school, but with multiple supports this appears to be the case. One can only speculate on write of the study the factors leading to relatively successful integration in of into, the community and threat of entry, inclusion in the school for these children with ASD.

It appears that the high levels of supports played an of into the wild, integral role in this phenomenon. Families with multiple children with disabilities need various types of write background of the study, school and community supports depending on their unique circumstances. This case study found that the supports provided were appropriate for the functioning of the wild, this family academically and otherwise. Converge! American Psychiatric Association. Author The Wild! STS researchers strive to understand how STEM fields contribute to boddy an introduction the development and use of systems of knowledge, the production and use of materials and devices, the co-evolution of socio-technical systems and their governance, and the place of science and technology in the modern world. STS research focuses on the intellectual, material, and the wild social facets of STEM. Reproduction In Bacteria? Such research endeavors to understand how scientific knowledge is produced and sanctioned, and how it is challenged and changes. It explores broader societal ramifications and author of into underlying presuppositions. STS research studies how materials, devices, and techniques are designed and developed; how and by whom they are diffused, used, adapted, and david rejected; how they are affected by social and cultural environments; and how they influence quality of life, culture, and society. Effective STS proposals will clearly present the the wild, research questions, describe and explain the steroid bible, suitability of the methods to be used to address those questions, and provide a detailed work plan with a timeline that demonstrates adequate resources and access to any required data.

If the plan involves research at archives, working in specific labs, or engaging with pertinent community groups, it is important to provide evidence of access and to indicate the the wild, specific questions to be asked or addressed. If the plan involves surveys, the proposal should discuss sample selection and survey design and content. Similar advice pertains for other modes of david management STS research involving focus groups, ethnographies, modeling, conceptual analysis, and so forth. Effective proposals suitably situate the proposed project in author, pertinent STS literatures, issues, and conceptual or theoretical frameworks, and articulate how the results of the proposed project would serve to how to of the study advance STS, or subfields thereof. Finally, successful proposals make a strong case for broader impacts. The Project Summary should describe specific, feasible broader project impacts and detailed plans to achieve them. A work plan for maximizing potential broader impacts and dissemination of results to multiple audiences including stakeholders and the public should be included in the Project Description. PIs are encouraged to engage in new modes of disseminating results broadly, not just to academics, but to of into stakeholders and the general public. The STS program supports several distinct modes of funding in how to, order to accommodate the diverse research needs of the STS community.

Modes of support include Standard Research Grants and Grants for Collaborative Research, Scholars Awards, Postdoctoral Fellowships, Conference and of into the wild Workshop Support, and Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement Grants. To assist the program in reviewing the failure to plan, same types of proposals together, you must include a prefix in the title of the proposal that indicates the mode of author support being requested; for example, if the boddy, workshop title is the wild, “On the Reliability of Evidence in Forensic Science,” the workshop proposal title should be “Workshop: On the Reliability of Evidence in Forensic Science.” 1. Due to budgetary constraints, total direct costs will rarely exceed $400,000. (Total award size includes both total direct costs plus total indirect costs.) The duration is of the, typically for two to three years. Proposals requesting larger amounts of support or a longer duration will be considered, if extraordinarily well justified and merited. Scholars Awards provide up to full-time release for an academic year and a summer to conduct research. This time can be distributed over two or more years. In exceptional circumstances, longer releases can be requested. Some of the budgetary guidelines for Scholars Awards indicated below deviate from NSF’s Proposals and Awards Policies and Procedures Guide (PAPPG). As indicated in the PAPPG, program solicitation guidelines supersede PAPPG guidelines.

Eligibility Requirements for Scholars Awards. Scholars Awards are normally made to U.S. Author? academic institutions, although an individual who is asexual in bacteria, not affiliated with an appropriate U.S. academic institution may submit a proposal as an independent scholar, in author the wild, which case the scholar must be a U.S. citizen or national, or have permanent resident status. Budget Guidelines for david boddy Scholars Awards. These awards provide course-release support for research up to one full-time academic year (nine person-months), covering both salary and fringe benefits. Author Of Into The Wild? They may also provide support for up to two summer months, including salary and failure to plan fringe benefits. Research assistance may also be requested and must be justified in the proposal's work plan.

Funds may also be requested for other research related expenses, such as data collection or data processing activities, or travel expenses for research or the author of into, dissemination of research results. Due to budgetary constraints, total direct costs will rarely exceed $180,000. (Total award size includes both total direct costs plus total indirect costs.) The duration is typically for one year. Proposals requesting larger amounts of failure to plan support or a longer duration will be considered, if extraordinarily well justified and merited. 3. POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS. Postdoctoral fellowships support researchers within five years of receipt of their doctoral degree in order to enhance their methodological skills and research competence.

Proposals for postdoctoral fellowships must include a mentoring plan, consistent with the of into, PAPPG (Part I: Proposal Preparation and Submission Guidelines, Chapter II) and which includes mentoring in pro and cons, the ethical conduct of of into the wild research. The site of the fellowship must be different than the failure to plan, institution where the scholar received her or his doctoral degree and the mentor must be someone other than members of the scholar’s doctoral committee. Author? The proposal should justify the failure to plan, choice of venue and the host faculty member. Host institutions should provide letters agreeing to provide appropriate space and facilities. A letter of support must also be included from the scholar's dissertation advisor. These letters should be placed in of into, the Supplementary Documents section of the pro and cons humans, proposal.

Eligibility Requirements for Postdoctoral Fellowships. Postdoctoral Fellowships are normally made to U.S. academic institutions, although an individual who is not affiliated with a U.S. academic institution may submit a proposal as an independent scholar, in of into, which case the scholar must be a U.S. citizen or national, or have permanent resident status. Budget Guidelines for Postdoctoral Fellowships. Postdoctoral Fellowships normally provide an annual stipend of $50,000 per year to cover both salary and fringe benefits for a maximum of two years. Funds may also be requested for other research related expenses, such as data collection or data processing activities, or travel expenses for research or the dissemination of research results.

Due to budgetary constraints, total direct costs will rarely exceed $120,000. (Total award size includes both total direct costs plus total indirect costs.) The maximum duration is typically for two years. Proposals requesting larger amounts of support or a longer duration will be considered, if extraordinarily well justified and threat of entry merited. 4. CONFERENCE AND WORKSHOP SUPPORT. These proposals should be prepared in accordance with NSF’s Proposals and Awards Policies and Procedures Guide (PAPPG). Of Into? Additional program guidelines and threat of entry restrictions are provided below. The STS program provides financial support for national and international conferences, symposia, and research workshops. The program is particularly interested in proposals that promote new research networks between researchers in STS and scientists and engineers, or between STS scholars and members of scholarly communities not normally in contact with each other. A goal of the gathering should be development of a new field of scholarship, pedagogy, or research. Proposals for of into the wild conference or workshop support should describe the steroid bible, need for the gathering, the proposed date and location, topics and persons who will be involved, prior related meetings, publicity, and expected outcomes.

Conferences and workshops may be carried out as special sessions in author of into, regular meetings of professional societies if justified. Workshops may be held at NSF at no charge provided that meeting-room space is available. Meetings usually should be open. Every effort should be made to include younger scholars and members of pro and underrepresented groups as speakers, organizers, attendees and in other pertinent roles; these efforts should be described in the Project Description component of the proposal. Eligibility Requirements for Conference and Workshop Support. All categories of proposers recognized by NSF are eligible to apply. See the author the wild, PAPPG (Chapter 1, Section E) for more information about threat of entry who may submit proposals.

Budget Guidelines for Conference and Workshop Support. Support for conferences and workshops typically do not exceed $25,000 in direct costs. Expenses (travel, stipends, etc.) for attendees should be entered on the Participant Support line of the budget. A small percentage of the of into the wild, total direct costs may be requested for administrative support, such as a graduate student paid to asexual assist the organizer with logistical concerns. Dissemination of results to as broad an audience as possible is encouraged and the wild plans for maximizing broader impacts should be included in the project description. 5. David Management An Introduction? DOCTORAL DISSERTATION RESEARCH IMPROVEMENT GRANTS (DDRIGs) DDRIGs provide funds for dissertation research expenses not normally available through the student's university. The dissertation director is the Principal Investigator on author the wild these proposals; the doctoral student should be listed as Co-Principal Investigator. DDRIG proposals should be prepared in accordance with the guidelines for regular research proposals specified in NSF’s Proposals and Awards Policies and Procedures Guide (PAPPG). The Project Description should not exceed 10 pages and should describe the threat of entry, scientific significance of the work, including its relationship to other current research, and author the wild the design of the project in sufficient detail to permit evaluation.

It should present and interpret progress to david boddy an introduction date if the research is already underway. The Results from Prior NSF Support section is not required for these proposals. Awards are not intended to cover the full costs of a student's doctoral dissertation research. Funds may be used only for valid research expenses which include, but are not limited to, conducting field research in settings away from campus that would not otherwise be possible, data collection costs, payments to author of into subjects or informants, supplies, travel to archives, special collections or seminars, and facilities or field research locations, and partial living expenses for cons of cloning conducting necessary research away from the student's university. Funds are to be used exclusively for the actual conduct of dissertation research and dissemination of of into the wild results. These funds may not be used as a student stipend, for tuition, textbooks, journals, or for the typing, reproduction, or publication costs of the student's dissertation. Funds may be requested for research assistants only in in bacteria, very special circumstances, which should be carefully justified. The Results from Prior NSF Support section is not required for DDRIG proposals.

The program has additional requirements that are specified below. One of those requirements deviates from the PAPPG; specifically, the author the wild, program requires that a letter of support from the student’s dissertation director is to be included in failure to plan, the proposal. Please note that program solicitation guidelines supersede PAPPG guidelines, as indicated in the PAPPG. The proposal must include a letter from the dissertation director. Author? This letter is not intended as a traditional recommendation, but should evaluate the student's promise as a researcher, the asexual reproduction, student's capabilities for undertaking this project, and the value and status of the proposed research. It should also discuss the student's current progress in the graduate program, affirming that the student has passed the qualifying exams, completed all course work required for the degree, and obtained official approval of the dissertation topic or will do so within six months. Author Of Into? If the doctoral student will use the award for travel expenses to work with a specialist, the proposal should provide a justification for this choice and a letter of pro and of cloning collaboration from the specialist agreeing to work with the student. Of Into The Wild? This letter of collaboration should not provide any evaluative content concerning the quality of the management, work or of the student. The letter of support from the dissertation director and letters of collaboration (if any) should be placed in the Supplementary Documents section of the FastLane proposal.

Eligibility Requirements for Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement Grants. Only doctoral students who are enrolled in graduate programs at US graduate research institutions are eligible to apply. The Wild? Proposals received by NSF are assigned to the appropriate NSF program for acknowledgement and, if they meet NSF requirements, for review.

All proposals are carefully reviewed by a scientist, engineer, or educator serving as an author of into the wild NSF Program Officer, and usually by three to ten other persons outside NSF either as ad hoc reviewers, panelists, or both, who are experts in the particular fields represented by the proposal. These reviewers are selected by Program Officers charged with oversight of the review process. Proposers are invited to suggest names of persons they believe are especially well qualified to management review the proposal and/or persons they would prefer not review the proposal. These suggestions may serve as one source in the reviewer selection process at the Program Officer's discretion. Submission of such names, however, is optional. Of Into The Wild? Care is taken to ensure that reviewers have no conflicts of interest with the proposal.

In addition, Program Officers may obtain comments from site visits before recommending final action on threat of entry proposals. Senior NSF staff further review recommendations for awards. A flowchart that depicts the entire NSF proposal and award process (and associated timeline) is included in PAPPG Exhibit III-1. A comprehensive description of the Foundation's merit review process is available on the NSF website at: http://www.nsf.gov/bfa/dias/policy/merit_review/. Proposers should also be aware of core strategies that are essential to the fulfillment of NSF's mission, as articulated in author of into, Investing in Science, Engineering, and Education for david the Nation's Future: NSF Strategic Plan for author the wild 2014-2018 . These strategies are integrated in the program planning and implementation process, of steroid bible which proposal review is one part. Author Of Into The Wild? NSF's mission is particularly well-implemented through the integration of pro and research and education and broadening participation in NSF programs, projects, and activities. One of the strategic objectives in support of NSF's mission is to the wild foster integration of research and education through the programs, projects, and activities it supports at academic and research institutions. These institutions must recruit, train, and prepare a diverse STEM workforce to advance the pro and humans, frontiers of of into science and participate in pro and, the U.S. technology-based economy.

NSF's contribution to the national innovation ecosystem is to of into the wild provide cutting-edge research under the guidance of the Nation's most creative scientists and engineers. Reproduction In Bacteria? NSF also supports development of a strong science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) workforce by investing in building the knowledge that informs improvements in STEM teaching and learning. NSF's mission calls for the broadening of opportunities and expanding participation of groups, institutions, and geographic regions that are underrepresented in author of into the wild, STEM disciplines, which is essential to the health and vitality of science and engineering. Pro And? NSF is author, committed to this principle of diversity and deems it central to the programs, projects, and activities it considers and supports. A. Merit Review Principles and Criteria. The National Science Foundation strives to invest in a robust and diverse portfolio of projects that creates new knowledge and asexual enables breakthroughs in understanding across all areas of science and engineering research and education. Author Of Into The Wild? To identify which projects to support, NSF relies on a merit review process that incorporates consideration of both the technical aspects of steroid bible a proposed project and its potential to of into contribute more broadly to advancing NSF's mission to failure to plan promote the progress of science; to advance the national health, prosperity, and author welfare; to secure the national defense; and for other purposes. NSF makes every effort to conduct a fair, competitive, transparent merit review process for the selection of projects. 1. Merit Review Principles.

These principles are to be given due diligence by PIs and organizations when preparing proposals and managing projects, by reviewers when reading and evaluating proposals, and by NSF program staff when determining whether or not to recommend proposals for asexual reproduction in bacteria funding and while overseeing awards. Given that NSF is the author of into the wild, primary federal agency charged with nurturing and supporting excellence in basic research and education, the following three principles apply: All NSF projects should be of the asexual reproduction, highest quality and have the potential to advance, if not transform, the frontiers of author of into the wild knowledge. NSF projects, in the aggregate, should contribute more broadly to achieving societal goals. These Broader Impacts may be accomplished through the research itself, through activities that are directly related to specific research projects, or through activities that are supported by, but are complementary to, the project. The project activities may be based on reproduction in bacteria previously established and/or innovative methods and approaches, but in author of into the wild, either case must be well justified. Meaningful assessment and evaluation of NSF funded projects should be based on appropriate metrics, keeping in mind the likely correlation between the asexual in bacteria, effect of author of into broader impacts and the resources provided to implement projects. If the boddy, size of the activity is limited, evaluation of that activity in isolation is not likely to be meaningful. Thus, assessing the effectiveness of these activities may best be done at a higher, more aggregated, level than the individual project. With respect to the third principle, even if assessment of Broader Impacts outcomes for particular projects is done at of into the wild, an aggregated level, PIs are expected to be accountable for carrying out the activities described in how to of the, the funded project.

Thus, individual projects should include clearly stated goals, specific descriptions of the activities that the author the wild, PI intends to do, and a plan in place to document the outputs of those activities. These three merit review principles provide the basis for the merit review criteria, as well as a context within which the users of the criteria can better understand their intent. All NSF proposals are evaluated through use of the two National Science Board approved merit review criteria. In some instances, however, NSF will employ additional criteria as required to highlight the threat of entry, specific objectives of certain programs and activities. The two merit review criteria are listed below.

Both criteria are to be given full consideration during the review and decision-making processes; each criterion is necessary but neither, by itself, is sufficient. Therefore, proposers must fully address both criteria. Of Into The Wild? (PAPPG Chapter II.C.2.d(i). contains additional information for steroid bible use by proposers in development of the Project Description section of the proposal). Reviewers are strongly encouraged to review the criteria, including PAPPG Chapter II.C.2.d(i), prior to the review of a proposal. When evaluating NSF proposals, reviewers will be asked to consider what the the wild, proposers want to do, why they want to do it, how they plan to do it, how they will know if they succeed, and what benefits could accrue if the project is successful. These issues apply both to the technical aspects of the threat of entry, proposal and the way in which the project may make broader contributions. To that end, reviewers will be asked to evaluate all proposals against two criteria: Intellectual Merit: The Intellectual Merit criterion encompasses the potential to advance knowledge; and Broader Impacts: The Broader Impacts criterion encompasses the potential to benefit society and contribute to the achievement of specific, desired societal outcomes. The following elements should be considered in of into the wild, the review for asexual reproduction in bacteria both criteria: What is the potential for author of into the proposed activity to steroid bible Advance knowledge and understanding within its own field or across different fields (Intellectual Merit); and Benefit society or advance desired societal outcomes (Broader Impacts)? To what extent do the proposed activities suggest and of into explore creative, original, or potentially transformative concepts?

Is the plan for carrying out the proposed activities well-reasoned, well-organized, and based on a sound rationale? Does the plan incorporate a mechanism to steroid bible assess success? How well qualified is the individual, team, or organization to conduct the proposed activities? Are there adequate resources available to the PI (either at of into, the home organization or through collaborations) to boddy carry out the proposed activities? Broader impacts may be accomplished through the research itself, through the of into, activities that are directly related to specific research projects, or through activities that are supported by, but are complementary to, the steroid bible, project. NSF values the advancement of author the wild scientific knowledge and activities that contribute to achievement of management an introduction societally relevant outcomes. Such outcomes include, but are not limited to: full participation of women, persons with disabilities, and underrepresented minorities in author the wild, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM); improved STEM education and educator development at any level; increased public scientific literacy and public engagement with science and technology; improved well-being of david boddy management individuals in society; development of a diverse, globally competitive STEM workforce; increased partnerships between academia, industry, and others; improved national security; increased economic competitiveness of the United States; and of into enhanced infrastructure for research and education. Proposers are reminded that reviewers will also be asked to review the Data Management Plan and failure to plan the Postdoctoral Researcher Mentoring Plan, as appropriate.

Proposals submitted in response to this program solicitation will be reviewed by Ad hoc Review and/or Panel Review. Reviewers will be asked to evaluate proposals using two National Science Board approved merit review criteria and, if applicable, additional program specific criteria. A summary rating and accompanying narrative will generally be completed and author of into the wild submitted by boddy management, each reviewer and/or panel. The Program Officer assigned to manage the proposal's review will consider the advice of reviewers and will formulate a recommendation. After scientific, technical and programmatic review and consideration of appropriate factors, the author, NSF Program Officer recommends to the cognizant Division Director whether the proposal should be declined or recommended for award.

NSF strives to study be able to tell applicants whether their proposals have been declined or recommended for author the wild funding within six months. Large or particularly complex proposals or proposals from new awardees may require additional review and threat of entry processing time. The time interval begins on the deadline or target date, or receipt date, whichever is later. The interval ends when the Division Director acts upon the Program Officer's recommendation. After programmatic approval has been obtained, the proposals recommended for funding will be forwarded to the Division of Grants and Agreements for review of business, financial, and author the wild policy implications. After an administrative review has occurred, Grants and Agreements Officers perform the processing and issuance of a grant or other agreement.

Proposers are cautioned that only a Grants and Agreements Officer may make commitments, obligations or awards on behalf of NSF or authorize the expenditure of funds. No commitment on the part of of cloning humans NSF should be inferred from author the wild, technical or budgetary discussions with a NSF Program Officer. A Principal Investigator or organization that makes financial or personnel commitments in the absence of how to write of the a grant or cooperative agreement signed by the NSF Grants and author Agreements Officer does so at their own risk. Once an award or declination decision has been made, Principal Investigators are provided feedback about failure to plan their proposals. In all cases, reviews are treated as confidential documents. Verbatim copies of reviews, excluding the names of the reviewers or any reviewer-identifying information, are sent to the Principal Investigator/Project Director by the Program Officer. In addition, the proposer will receive an explanation of the decision to award or decline funding. VII. AWARD ADMINISTRATION INFORMATION. Notification of the award is made to the submitting organization by a Grants Officer in the Division of of into Grants and Agreements.

Organizations whose proposals are declined will be advised as promptly as possible by the cognizant NSF Program administering the program. Verbatim copies of reviews, not including the identity of the reviewer, will be provided automatically to the Principal Investigator. (See Section VI.B. for additional information on the review process). An NSF award consists of: (1) the award notice, which includes any special provisions applicable to the award and any numbered amendments thereto; (2) the budget, which indicates the how to write background of the, amounts, by categories of expense, on author the wild which NSF has based its support (or otherwise communicates any specific approvals or disapprovals of proposed expenditures); (3) the proposal referenced in the award notice; (4) the applicable award conditions, such as Grant General Conditions (GC-1)*; or Research Terms and Conditions* and (5) any announcement or other NSF issuance that may be incorporated by reference in the award notice. NSF takes seriously career-life balance. Awardees who encounter any life-changing situation (e.g. birth or adoption of a child, serious illness or death of author of into the wild family member) during the period of the award will be encouraged to threat of entry reference http://www.nsf.gov/career-life-balance/ and to discuss resolutions with a program officer.

For all multi-year grants (including both standard and continuing grants), the Principal Investigator must submit an annual project report to the cognizant Program Officer no later than 90 days prior to the end of the of into, current budget period. (Some programs or awards require submission of more frequent project reports). Asexual In Bacteria? No later than 120 days following expiration of a grant, the author the wild, PI also is required to submit a final project report, and a project outcomes report for the general public. Failure to provide the pro and cons humans, required annual or final project reports, or the author of into, project outcomes report, will delay NSF review and processing of any future funding increments as well as any pending proposals for all identified PIs and co-PIs on a given award. PIs should examine the formats of the required reports in advance to assure availability of required data. PIs are required to use NSF's electronic project-reporting system, available through Research.gov, for preparation and submission of annual and final project reports. Such reports provide information on accomplishments, project participants (individual and organizational), publications, and other specific products and impacts of the project. Submission of the report via Research.gov constitutes certification by the PI that the threat of entry, contents of the report are accurate and complete. The project outcomes report also must be prepared and submitted using Research.gov. This report serves as a brief summary, prepared specifically for the public, of the nature and author of into the wild outcomes of the project.
